Course

The fashion industry is undergoing a profound transformation driven by environmental challenges, technological innovation, new consumer expectations, and a fast-evolving regulatory framework. The Ecodesign for Sustainable Products Regulation (ESPR), the Digital Product Passport, and the EU Strategy for Sustainable and Circular Textiles are redefining how products, materials, and supply chains are designed and managed across their lifecycle. The Course Ecodesign for Fashion

provides participants with the tools to navigate this complexity. Here are the program goals:

  • Understand the environmental, technological, and regulatory shifts redefining fashion, and Ecodesign’s role as a systemic lens
  • Analyse products, processes, and supply chains through Ecodesign, recognising interdependencies that influence sustainability
  • Assess materials, impacts, circularity, and ESPR requirements, weighing the trade-offs in product development and business decisions
  • Interpret the fashion ecosystem: stakeholders, material and information flows, and the dynamics linking product and supply chain
  • Integrate sustainability, materials, lifecycle, circularity, traceability, and regulation into a systemic vision of innovation
  • Apply Ecodesign principles to products, services, and business cases, formulating critical assessments to support informed decisions.

Across six modules and a final Ecodesign Lab, participants learn to interpret materials, impacts, circularity, traceability, and trade-offs through real cases. These are some of the main topics the program focuses on:

  • The Fashion System and Regulation: How European regulation (EU Textile Strategy, ESPR, DPP, EPR) is driving systemic change through Ecodesign
  • Materials, Impact, and Circularity: Life Cycle Thinking, material flows, and impact hotspots along the Fashion System value chain
  • Decision-Making and Complexity: Trade-offs and interdependencies across design, sourcing, sustainability, and supply chain (real case studies)
  • From Decisions to Organizational Change: How product-level decisions translate into broader strategies, processes, and business models within an Ecodesign perspective
  • Applied Workshop: Hands-on systemic analysis of a real product, collection, or business case.
