Lighting & LED Technology - Lighting Design per lo Show

A course of study for Lighting Technologies, where theoretical and technological basis of the subject are debated, and a course of study for Design, where design themes are practiced and debated.

The courses, which are modules belonging to the Specializing Master in Lighting Design & LED Technology, are provided from POLI.design, are purchasable and attendable individually:

COURSE (40 hours): Lighting Design for the Show – 14 edition (5 – 14 february 2020)

WORKSHOP (40 hours): Lighting Design for hospitality (12 march 2020)

COURSE (82 hours): Lighting Design – Fondamental and CAD – 15 edition (17 september – 11 december 2020)

Lighting Design for the Show – Short course

  • Daily / weekly commitment: 1 day
  • Time for lessons: 9.30 am – 5.15 pm with break from 12.30 pm to 2.00 pm
  • Course Location: Laboratorio LUCE – Department of Design, Politecnico di Milano

Lighting Design for Shows – Longe Course

  • Daily / Weekly commitment: n. 6 days
  • Time for lessons: days in which the commitment is full-time from 9.00 am to 6.30 pm and days in which the commitment is part-time from 9.00 am to 1.15 pm or from 2.15 pm to 6.30 pmalternate.
  • Course Location: POLI.design

Training objectives

Lighting Design for the Show – Short course

The short course proposes contents for the introduction of the themes of Lighting design for the show. Elements of photometry and characteristics of the sources. History of light in the show. Use of white and colored light, psychology, symbology, languages ​​of “luminous painting”. Interventions on the technologies of the sector. Innovative lighting products for live-show, visual & multimedia technologies
control technologies for products. Entertainment technologies for communicative architectural lighting.

Lighting Design for Shows – Longe Course

  • The market for “Live” in Italy, construction and management of “Live Stage” production synergies (lights, stage sets, audio and video), integration with the musical repertoire, technical choices (timing, verification, artistic choices, planning and direction), establishment of a set list and implementation of the show.
  • New technologies and control systems, “intelligent lights” and materials for the show.
  • Applied Optics (propagation, beacons, mirrors and lenses).
  • Lighting Fixtures (types of beacons, features, applications and computer services).
  • Movement (manual, pole and motorized beacons), intensity, quality (color temperature and light sources) and correction (electric / filters) of light.
  • Storage methods.
  • Relate conventional equipment and LED lighting.
  • Comparison, selection and positioning of the projectors.
  • Color application.

As part of the course, there will be programmed tours at the Clay Paky di Seriate (BG) and at televison studios Mediaset in Cologno Monzese (MI).

At the end of the Course, a certificate of attendance and Open Badge to the Course in “Lighting Design per lo Show” will be issued by POLI.design.
