Course

The course was developed from an idea of Sergio Antonio Salvi and covers the management and design development of products to be made in plastic.
Inspired by the principles of the “design for X”, concept from which most modern industrial production strategies were born, the course aims to produce highly professional individuals: after training, the design manager will be able to independently manage the design and development of products in plastic, both on a cultural and technical-scientific level, as well as follow the process of prototyping and manufacturing.

The course develops from a “cultural” model to the theoretical and technical foundations related to the design of objects in plastic. This will be followed by laboratory work in which a design context will be identified allowing students to test the knowledge gained through design exercises and field experience. At the CESAP laboratories, for example, students will have the opportunity to meet with highly experienced specialists who will guide them in some visits, showing test equipment, mould manufacturing technologies and some production processes.
Teaching may be supplemented by additional outside activities such as visits to museums, industry exhibitions, model and tool producers and manufacturing sites.
The course is aimed at graduates from schools and faculties of design, engineering and architecture; however, it is accessible to industry technicians and contractors able to display evidence of design training, or experience. Candidate profiles not matching these categories may be evaluated by management for admission.

Thursday, from 14:00 to 18:00 and Friday, from 9:00 to 18:00.

Didactic Plan

Module 1 “Culture of Plastic Materials” – duration 40 hours

Module 2 “workshop” – duration 40 hours
Design and CAD for plastics – workshop 40h
The workshop aims to verify, through design exercises with reference to the main technologies of transformation of polymers, the acquisition of the instrumental culture that will allow to manage the entire design-production process. Starting from hypothetical briefs or from supposed design problems coming from simulations of production contexts, specific themes related to simple polymer products or components will be assigned. In the workshop, students, guided in the design, will develop design concepts or technical solutions, elaborated with manual and CAD techniques, which can be discussed with experts in the field.

The workshop develops in two fundamental phases:

  • Concept Design = conceive the product starting from the technological constraints and the functional and expressive potential of plastic materials.
  • Design Development = to develop the concept with reference to the processes of constructive and productive definition of the project elaborated in phase 1.

 

Title Released

At the end of the course will be issued a certificate of attendance and Open Badge at the Course in Design For Plastics.
