Lighting Design for Hospitality

NO LONGER IN PLAN

CONTENT OF THE WORKSHOP
What is an hospitable space? What is an hospitable luminous atmosphere? How the natural and artificial lighting can be combined to highlight the architectural, social and behavioural aspects of a space
for hospitality? Why is lighting so important to human beings? Which are the effects of light on people? How should we imagine the lighting of the future in hospitable environment? The project work
would explore the following three main topics: Human Centric Lighting and its psychobiological influence on human beings; Internet of Light and the design of connected and digitized lighting;
Architectural embedded lighting and the design of customized, miniaturized lighting systems.
More than only for visibility and vision, researcher and designers have studied light for its non-visual effects on humans, in particular referring to the photobiology and its important role on human mental states, mood and social behaviours. In addition to this, in order to explore new improved experiences and services by learning behaviours and adapting to users’ needs, lighting would be also studied in its connectedness. Through digital infrastructure and sensorized luminaries as the backbones of the Internet of Things (IoT), the “Internet of Light” would be presented through its essentials: quality of light, control and communications, awareness and sensing. New people experiences and services can be envisioned in order to open up possible future scenarios and to shape the adaptive rhythm of hospitable light. Finally the forthcoming topics of LEDs lighting as an architectural material would be presented and explored. Lighting systems are becoming embedded architectural materials through custom integration and miniaturization in order to be fused into buildings materials. This is defining new creative possibilities for architects, lighting and interior designers.
