He joined the food & beverage corporation in 2012 and in said role he is infusing design thinking into PepsiCo\u2019s culture and is leading a new approach to innovation by design that impacts the company\u2019s product platforms and brands, which include Pepsi, Lay\u2019s, Mountain Dew, Gatorade, Sodastream, Doritos, Lifewtr, bubly, Aquafina, Cheetos, Quaker, 7Up, Mirinda, amongst many others.\u00a0 His focus extends from physical to virtual expressions of the brands, including product, packaging, events, advertising, fashion and art collaborations, retail activation, architecture, and digital media. He leads teams based in New York City, Purchase, Dallas, Chicago, Los Angeles, Orlando, Miami, London, Dublin, Moscow, Il Cairo, New Delhi, Shanghai, Bangkok, Mexico City, Sao Paulo and Cape Town.<\/p>\n<p>Mauro is the host of his own successful video podcast <em>\u201cIn your shoes – with Mauro Porcini\u201d<\/em> on <em>Apple podcast<\/em>,<em> Spotify<\/em> and <em>YouTube<\/em>, where he interviews inspiring personalities from the creative community worldwide.<\/p>\n<p>Since 2020, he is a presenter and judge on the <em>TV show \u201cNew York by Design\u201d<\/em> and <em>\u201cAmerica by Design\u201d,<\/em> airing on <em>CBS <\/em>and <em>Amazon Prime Video<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>In 2021 his first book was published, in Italian: <em>\u201cL\u2019et\u00e0 dell\u2019eccellenza \u2013 Come innovazione e creativit\u00e0 possono costruire un mondo migliore\u201d<\/em> (Il Saggiatore). His first book in English, <em>\u201cThe Human Side of Innovation. The Power of People in Love with People\u201d<\/em> (Berrett-Koehler), focusing on innovation, design and leadership, is planned to be launched in October 2022.<\/p>\n<p>Prior to joining PepsiCo, Mauro served as the first ever Chief Design Officer at 3M, where his mission was to build and nurture a design sensitive culture in a technology driven global corporation.\u00a0 His teams, based in the U.S., Italy, China and Japan, won many of the world\u2019s most prestigious design and innovation awards.<\/p>\n<p>Mauro began his professional career at Philips Design and then created his own design firm, Wisemad Srl, in Italy with the celebrated entertainment producer and music star Claudio Cecchetto.\u00a0 His work on wearable technologies has been showcased at the Louvre in Paris as well as the Seoul Art Center.<\/p>\n<p>Over the years he has been on the board of directors for several organizations. Currently, he is the President of the <em>Politecnico of Milan Foundation in the United States<\/em> (Fellows of Politecnico), sits on the board of directors of the <em>Design Management Institute<\/em> <em>of Boston<\/em>, and on the advisory council of other design, art, innovation and business institutions.<\/p>\n<p>Mauro is a fashion lover, but not a fashion addict \u2013 regardless of his collection of more than 300 pairs of shoes. He lives in New York City with his wife Carlotta and their two Pomeranians, Leone and Bella.<\/p>\n<p> <\/p>\n<p><strong>Awards and recognitions<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>In the past several years Mauro has been recognized with a variety of honors and awards for his achievements in the fields of design and innovation.<\/p>\n<p>Among them, in 2019 the President of the Italian Republic recognized Mauro with the title of <em>Cavaliere dell\u2019Ordine della Stella d\u2019Italia<\/em>, an order of <em>knighthood<\/em> awarded for \u201cextraordinary merits in the preservation and promotion of national prestige abroad, promoting friendly relations and co-operation with other countries and ties with Italy.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>In 2021 he was named one of <em>\u201c2020\u2019s Top 25 Most Influential Innovators\u201d<\/em> by <em>InnoLead<\/em> (Boston).<\/p>\n<p>In 2020 the <em>Thomas Jefferson University<\/em> (Philadelphia) named him <em>\u201cInnovator of the Year.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<p>In 2019 he received the <em>Pentawards \u201cVisionary Award\u201d<\/em> in London.<\/p>\n<p>In 2018 he was honored in New York City with the <em>DrivenXDesign<\/em> \u201c<em>Chairman\u2019s Better Future Award,\u201d<\/em> given to those individuals that have led Expeditions to a Better Future, working over the last decade to make a difference in the world.<\/p>\n<p>In 2016, the <em>Italy America Chamber of Commerce<\/em> awarded him with the \u201c<em>Business and Culture Award,\u201d<\/em> a recognition given every year to one Italian that has performed in an extraordinary way in the United States in the fields of business and culture. That same year he received the \u201c<em>US Design Brand Leader Award.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<p>In 2015, the newspaper <em>Il Giornale <\/em>named him \u201c<em>One of the 10 Italians that will change the world<\/em>\u201d while <em>GQ Italy<\/em> listed him as one of the \u201c<em>30 Best Dressed Men of 2015<\/em>.\u201d<br \/>\nIn 2014, Mauro was included in <em>Fast Company\u2019s <\/em>\u201c<em>Most Creative People in Business 1000<\/em>,\u201d an influential, diverse group of modern Renaissance men and women across the economy and around the globe. He was also recognized with the \u201c<em>PrimiDieci Under 40<\/em>,\u201d an award that celebrates the extraordinary professional and personal success of the ten most distinguished Italians in the U.S. every year.<\/p>\n<p>Since 2013 Mauro has been part of the \u201c<em>Italian Talents in a Foreign Country<\/em>\u201d community of the <em>Aspen Italia Institute<\/em> chaired by prof. Giulio Tremonti.<\/p>\n<p>In 2012 <em>Fortune Magazine listed him in the \u201c40 under 40\u201d<\/em> ranking \u2013 its list of \u201cthe business\u2019s hottest rising stars\u201d \u2013 the only designer included,<em> Ad Age <\/em>named him in the \u201c<em>Creativity 50<\/em>\u201d \u2013 its list of the \u201cworld\u2019s most influential creative personalities<em>\u201d <\/em>and the <em>PoliMi association of the University Politecnico of Milan <\/em>recognized him with the <em>Alumni Polimi Awards 2012 <\/em>for the \u201cgreat merit of contributing to enrich the Italian culture in the world.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>In 2011,<em> Fast Company <\/em>recognized him as one of the<em> \u201c50 Most Influential Designers in America\u201d and \u201cMaster of Design\u201d <\/em>while the <em>World HR Forum<\/em> in Mumbai presented him with its \u201c<em>Award for Leadership and Innovation<\/em>.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The <em>Wall Street Journal\u2019s CFO Journal in 2011<\/em> called him \u201cthe man putting 3M on the design map,\u201d and under his design leadership, 3M made <em>Fast Company\u2019s<\/em> list of 30 companies that \u201cget\u201d design.<\/p>\n<p>Since its creation PepsiCo\u2019s Design function, led by Mauro, has been recognized with more than 1,500 design and innovation awards \u2013 in 9 years of projects \u2013 from several institutions around the world. Fortune included PepsiCo in their 2018 <em>\u201cDriven by Design\u201d<\/em> list, one of only two organizations in the Food and Beverage Industry.<\/p>\n<p>Mauro\u2019s work has been featured in several books on design and innovation in multiple regions of the world.
