Course

The Executive Course in Healthcare Design – Designing Medical and Healthcare Products and Services provides practical and theoretical tools and skills to develop and manage highly usable products and services for patients and caregivers. Below are the program objectives.

• Enhance knowledge of ergonomics and human factors principles in healthcare design.
• Update knowledge on trends and challenges in the healthcare sector.
• Learn key regulations and standards related to the design of biomedical devices and software.
• Learn to design digital graphic interfaces for medical applications.
• Learn how to design a wearable product/service with biomedical sensors
• Acquire the skills to improve the usability and user experience of medical products, in order to develop health-related product or service projects

The training program targets recent graduates and professionals in the field (designers and consultants for companies, startups, and research centers). The program is divided into three parts.

• Theoretical overview of the context and medicine of the “5Ps” (predictive, precise, personalized, preventive, and participatory); regulations and classification of medical devices; ergonomics and human factor principles; benchmarking recent solutions and technologies for monitoring physiological parameters.
• Introduction to basic principles for designing digital graphic interfaces for health, as well as usability and user experience.
• Project development for a wearable product or system, prototyping in the laboratory, and designing an app for data visualization.

Didactics

Didactic Modules

The program includes theoretical teachings and practical exercises totaling 32 hours. Classes will be held on Friday afternoons or Saturday mornings to facilitate participation for those who are already working.

Module 1 | Hours: 4

New Perspectives in the Healthcare Sector and Relevant Regulations
Introduction to current and future scenarios in the healthcare sector, based on the vision of predictive, precise, personalized, preventive, and participatory medicine. Focus on the regulatory framework for the development and certification of medical systems (products and apps).

Module 2 | Hours: 2

The Technological Challenge and the Human Being at the Core of the Design
Overview of technologies and medical systems for monitoring key vital signs; introduction to the principles of ergonomics and human factors.

Module 3 | Hours: 2

Principles and Technologies for Designing Graphical Interfaces in the Biomedical Field
Focus on data visualization principles in healthcare, analysis of cloud-based technologies for clinical data management, and study of the related regulations.

Module 4 | Hours: 12

Designing a Graphical Interface for the Biomedical Sector (FIGMA + PROTOPIE)
Theoretical and practical lessons on the principles, basic elements, and tools for UI/UX design in the healthcare sector. Focus on usability and user experience evaluation.

Module 5 | Hours: 20

Design of a Wearable System for the Biomedical Sector and Its Dedicated Application
Design and development of a wearable sensor-based system in the sports, occupational, or healthcare field, along with its graphical interface (app or web app) for displaying physiological parameters and/or movement and biomechanical data.
This module also includes a visit to the Sensibilab Laboratory at the Lecco Campus, where equipment for prototyping wearable systems will be demonstrated (3D printers, thermo-adhesive machine, computerized embroidery machine, laser cutter).

Title Released

Upon completion of the training program, participants will receive the open badge for the Executive Course in Design for Healthcare by POLI.design.

Admission to the course is subject to a prior selection process. Applicants must submit the following selection documents via this LINK:
