The University Master program in Yacht Design, organized by the Design Faculty of the Politecnico di Milano in collaboration with the University of Genoa and POLI.design has been set up to meet an intense demand for training in the recreational boat sector, which requires professionals with a post-graduate specialization.
Aims
The program provides the tools required to handle the process of designing and building sailing and motor craft.
Professional outlets
Students who complete the program will be ready to cover professional roles that differ from those for which they were prepared by their previous training. Roles covered in recent years by graduates from the Master include: design assistant in professional firms, shipyard production assistant, production manager, quality control manager.
Professional qualification
At the end of the course, successful candidates will be awarded a First level University Master from the Politecnico di Milano.

The program will be conducted at the Consorzio POLI.design, Politecnico di Milano, via Durando 38/A, Milano.
Market
Data elaborated and published by UCINA (the Italian National Shipyards and Related Shipping Industries Union) have highlighted an overall growth in the Italian shipping industry over recent years, confirming the positive trend which had already emerged in previous years. The production value of Italian shipping companies was estimated at Euro 3,450 million in 2007 (production of recreational craft), which is an increase of 19.57% on 2006, with a strong trend towards exports (58.92%).
The growth in exports, which on average exceeds 59% of domestic production, has been confirmed. This year the increase was 53.36% to Europe and 46.64% to countries outside the EU. The export/import balance increased by 31.57% in favor of exports.
For the fourth consecutive year the Italian shipping industry has come first in Europe in terms of the value of pleasure craft production and second in the world after the United States.
Italy affirmed its supremacy as the largest producer of superyachts in 2000 by overtaking the United States, until then the uncontested market leader. Italy holds a world market share, by number of units produced, of around 45%.
