SMART Label 2015

146 product candidates in the second edition of SMART Label, the recognition promoted by Host – Fiera Milano in collaboration with POLI.design, addressed to all the participating companies to Host 2015, the International Hospitality Exhibition, a global leader in Ho.Re.Ca. and Retail, held in Fiera Milano – Rho from Friday 23 to Tuesday 27, October 2015.

A success testified not only by the large number of registered participants, but also from the quality of such proposals: a confirmation of the extreme vitality of a sector able to constantly renew itself, always improving and customizing its offering.

The 2015 edition of SMART Label had two categories of awards that not only meant to appreciate the individual products and the most advanced companies, but also emphasize an industry that show strong signs of innovation and dynamism for the benefit of the entire hospitality market:
Smart Label: for products with innovative features;
Innovation Smart Label: for products highly innovative products that seek to break and overcome the established trends of the industry.
The competition Committee, composed of Francesco Profumo, President of the energy company Iren and Minister of Education from 2011 to 2013, Chris McMahon, Professor of Engineering Design at the University of Bristol, Federico Ferrazza, Director of Wired Italy, Matteo Ingaramo, Director of POLI.design and Arturo Dell’Acqua Bellavitis, Dean of the Faculty of Design at Politecnico di Milano and actual President of Triennale Design Museum, met on July 6 to evaluate the applications submitted by the various sectors of ” Ho.Re.Ca Universe “- from the professional restoration to catering, from ice cream to coffee makers, from tableware to street food – and awarded the SMART Label recognition to 63 products, characterized by a highly innovative content in terms of functionality, technology, environmental, social and ethical implications, judging them on the basis of three key criteria:

the efficiency of functions of the product or service;
the effectiveness of product performance or usability of the service;
the innovativeness of use, technologies and benefits to users.

SMART Label2015 IS BACK: ACCREDITATION OF INNOVATION IN THE FIELD OF PROFESSIONAL HOSPITALITY
Host – Fiera Milano and POLI.design reward the most innovative products and companies in the Hotel/Restaurant/Café and Retail industries present at HOST 2015

Rewarding the most innovative products in terms of functionality, technology, environmental sustainability, ethical and social implications of the companies present at Host2015, International Hospitality Exhibition, world leader in the Ho.Re.Ca and Retail industries: this is the objective that underlies SMART Label, recognizing innovation in the professional hospitality industry promoted by Host – Fiera Milano in collaboration with POLI.design.

SMART Label is open to all companies entered in Host2015. The event will be held in Fiera Milano, Rho, from Friday 23 to Tuesday 27, October, 2015. The next year’s event is particularly important because it ideally accompanies the end of Expo Milano 2015.
The 2015 edition of SMART Label has two categories of awards that not only mean to appreciate the individual products and the most advanced companies, but also emphasize an industry that show strong signs of innovation and dynamism for the benefit of the entire hospitality market:
• Smart Label: for products with innovative features;
• Innovation Smart Label: for products highly innovative products that seek to break and overcome the established trends of the industry.

Participation and conduct
Starting September 1, 2014 until May 15, 2015, companies can send the candidacy of their own product or project (in construction), as specified on the event website www.host.fieramilano.it and www.polidesign.net/HOST2015, using a specific template (other forms will not be accepted for candidacy; each company may send a single presentation).

A committee composed of professors of the Politecnico di Milano and industry experts will evaluate the proposals and will give recognition to all the products that will demonstrate they meet the necessary requirements. There will be three key elements of evaluation when selecting the most deserving projects:
• the efficiency of functions of the product or service;
• the effectiveness of product performance or usability of the service;
• the innovativeness of use, technologies and benefits to users.

The winning projects will receive the “label”- a real distinctive label to be affixed on the selected products not only at Host2015 but for the entire lifespan of the product – and will become part of the list of “Smart Products” present at Host2015 where, once a display has been specially designed, more visibility will given to these innovative SMART projects.

Host Smart Label is part of a series of initiatives that discover innovation, spread both in the design as well as in the technology. Furthermore, these initiatives are protagonists of Host2015 within a framework of cooperation and promotion between the leading exhibition of the hospitality industry and the companies from the production chains which are synonymous with research, quality and productivity.

Host 2015
For 38 editions Host, International Hospitality Exhibition, has been a global recognised leader for innovation in Horeca and Retail, both in technology and in the new format and consumer trends, where 1,900 companies meet 1,500 hosted and profiled buyers and 140 thousand professionals. In the next edition, in Fiera Milano in Rho from Friday 23 to Tuesday, October 27, 2015, the renovated Furniture and Table areas will present the top producers of furniture, accessories and tableware. Furniture and Table will combine innovative techniques and materials with design, offering complete layouts, ready to become project ideas immediately actionable by hospitality professionals.

POLI.design
Tradition and innovation, quality and ability to link with the professional world are the cornerstones that make POLI.design one of the international references for post-graduate training. Together with the School of Design and the Department of Design, POLI.design is part of the prestigious System Design at the Politecnico di Milano, a university institution of recognized excellence that gathers around it a unique centre for research and training.
A direct relationship with the professional world is guaranteed by the associative component. In fact a consortium of the most important professional associations is part of the project: ADI Association for Industrial Design, AIAP Italian Association of Visual Communication Design, AIMAT Italian Association of Materials Engineering, AIPI Italian Association of Interior Designers. POLI.design is also part of BEDA, Bureau of European Design Associations.
