Designer: Simone Guida (born 09/04/1988)_A specialist in ceramic art and a sculpture graduate from the Turin Academy of Fine Arts, he designs and creates interior design ornaments and everyday items in grès and china, inspired by the soft contours of the natural world. Interested in the world of manual work from an early age, he is fascinated by how material is molded by knowledge and the skilled work of hands. This passion, embodied in his work with ceramics, emerged during summer visits to the workshops of Grottaglie (TA), home of his paternal grandparents.

Designer: Francesca Romei (born 27/04/1983). After completing an undergraduate degree in Industrial Design at the Seconda Universita degli Studi in Naples, she moved to Milan to complete her studies at the Polytechnic Design Faculty. Then in 2008 she was off to London for an intense work experience as a model maker in various architecture and design studios. The exploration of many materials and production technologies led her to a design methodology focused on the combination of Digital and Industrial Design elements, supported by the manual and artisan skills acquired earlier.
After a steady apprenticeship in workshops and laboratories, in 2010 she began to produce ceramic works, a particular collection of table items, reflecting feelings, style and culture. These unique pieces are inspired by items of the past but presented in a modern interpretation.

5) Project | “ITER_Indoor TERrace ”_modular food sprouter

Product description
“ITER Indoor TERrace” modular food sprouter. A sprouter for modular food production, with moveable shelves to create a green wall. 6) Project | “MINO”_garden gnome in pressed compost

Product description
Born in Germany in the 17th century, garden gnomes were exported to England by an English gentleman who wanted to decorate his garden. Nowadays, they’re valued as kitsch items, often a little sad despite their bright colours, as they are forced to live out their lives as ornaments in artificial domestic environments.
The Mino gnome on the other hand inhabits a living garden, nourishing the grass around him – then, when the season ends, he starts to disappear without trace. Made of pressed compost and 100% biodegradable, he is a powerful natural fertilizer and can also be personalized with drawings, colours or accessories. The compost is made up of common organic waste from which the bio-gas (and thus bad smell) has been removed – it’s similar to humus, the fertile section of soil which is rich in nutritious elements. Mino is an aesthetic form of compost storage, a valuable substance which unfortunately is generally just put on heaps or in boring bins. By transforming compost into a “cute” item, its use in domestic households is encouraged – in gardens, lawns and allotments. The Mino gnome introduces organic compost as a material to be molded in varying sizes and shapes – it could even be planted with seeds or inoculated with fungus spores for an even more “alive” and practical item.
Product’s technical file
Materials: pressed compost
Size: 17 x 20 x 37 cm (approx.)
Weight: about 1 kg

Designer: Buscai (in Brianzolo dialect, it means “woodshaving”) is a team of Brianza artisans specialised in woodwork, all with the fervent creativity of young Italian designers. Their objective is to recover both “artisan know-how” in woodwork (Brianza’s local and historic trade) and re-construct a direct relationship, personal and friendly, between artisans and designers, thus promoting Italian design and laying a solid base for the Italian manufacturing tradition
In this period of economic depression and limited business investment, Buscai want to emphasise that creativity and industriousness are still around – with this collection of small household items, they want to show that the only true way to pull out of the financial “impasse” is with passion and a desire for creativity. By rediscovering tradition, transforming it and updating it for modern tastes.

9) Project | “Urban Survival Kit”_food dehydrator and smoker

Product Description
“Urban Survival Kit” is the first experimental step towards alternative methods for food conservation, cooking and re-use. The kit comprises two tools – a dehydrator and a smoker. Eolo (the dehydrator) uses a natural drying process via wind/solar power and silica gel. Its characteristic shape was designed specifically to promote transpiration, positioning and protection from insects or other animals. The Eolo ring rigid base can be used to hang or place it in the optimum position for sunlight or heat from other sources in the house. Efesto (the smoker) ensures a prolonged life expectancy for food. With this treatment, food takes on a delicious smoky scent and a wonderful colour. The item is made of two elements – the first (the base) provides controlled combustion, whilst the second (placed on top of the base) provides a surface for the food to be laid out for smoking. The lid has a small cone that also functions as an airhole for smoke circulation.
It is made of ceramic and wood, ideal materials for a natural lifestyle.
The project firmly supports today’s essential values – sustainability (through the use of natural long-lasting materials) along with simple forms and practicality. The item offers domestic warmth and careful attention to detail as opposed to impractical moral highbrow preaching.
Product’s technical description
Size: food smoker 34×24 cm, food dehydrator 30×50 cm
Designer: Design Sottoscala is a team of three young designers – Francesco Marini, Alessandro Nedrotti and Marta Zanotti. The collaborative effort began when they discovered a shared affinity for experimental design at university. Together they merge different skills and interests that complement each other and create an overall design process that is complete in every way. Sottoscala explores design as a broker between cultural traditions and new forms of global communication in a cosmopolitan dynamic reality. From dialogue and sharing of different knowledge (that they acquired during various experiences abroad), the group has acquired a critical approach towards sustainability and the importance of items as social links.
Design Sottoscala continues to experiment in its work on details and materials, with the goal of completing projects that are neither impersonal nor ultra hi-tech – the product speaks for itself.

10) Project | “ProntoIntervento” (Emergency Repair Service)_repair service for damaged/broken item

Product Description
Pronto Intervento aims to repair and restore objects believed to be broken and ready to throw out. The project sets out to transmit a new message of awareness between item users, teaching them that often the value of an object is in its history, not just in its appearance. Pronto Intervento comprises a network of various skilled experts, in a type of group plan where each member plays an essential role which contributes to the overall project. The request passes from the user to the designer and the artisan know-how of the repairers and makers, before returning to the user in the form of a personal kit made specially for the object to be repaired.
Product Description
“Seggia” _ the repair was carried out by replacing the seat with an orange PMMA shelf attached to the structure with a blue cotton cord.
Material: PMMA, wood and cotton cord

Material: PMMA, tubular steel and ABS
Production technique: Laser cutting and 3D printing
Designer: Pronto Intervento  was founded by Francesco Pace, a graduate in Industrial Design and co-founder of the audio-visual team Samples Lab,  in collaboration with Francesco  Forcellini, graduate in Industrial Design from the Polytechnic of Milan currently working in product design, and Fabio Mennella, MSc in Industrial Design from Domus Academy and founder of Antietico. The team are in constant contact with companies, designers, architects, videomakers, graphic artists, communication experts and artists.

SPECIAL MENTION PROJECTS
Project | ” Moments” _ Olive oil candle cloc

Product Description
” Moments” _ Olive oil candle clock
Glass, oil and cardboard are the three elements that make up Moments, a Sanserif Creatius candle. Inspired by ancient oil lamps, it is produced in recycled glass, runs on extra-virgin olive oil, and comes complete with a floating wick. In addition to creating a special warm atmosphere, it is also a clock: the 12-inch wick allows up to 10 hours of eco-friendly lighting. In fact, the tube has carved notches at 60-minute intervals which allow you to keep track of time. Moments is a collection of oil clocks made in collaboration with Sara Sorribes, a well-known glass artisan. This clock has been developed to renew the consumer’s relationship with the object, providing new sensations and enhanced value.
