IDEAS4WOOD 2023/2024: the wood surface design contest

The TABU and Carpanelli competition: how to participate

IDEAS4WOOD is a yearly international contest. It has a strong educational impulse and is designed to support the knowledge of wood. Promoted by TABU in partnership with Carpanelli, the contest is sponsored by ADI, FederlegnoArredo and FSC® Italia. University students and design professionals are invited to create unpublished projects of geometric, organic or combined designs as follows.

• Multilaminar wood veneers for the furniture industry and wall coverings for interiors
• Industrial inlays both on dyed natural veneers and on multilaminar wood veneers – or freely assemblable – for the production of panels, for the furniture industry and the wall coverings for interiors
• Three-dimensional surfaces made with the technique of the embossed relief or the bas-relief for the production of panels for the furniture industry and the wall coverings for interiors
• Surfaces for state-of-the-art boiserie carried out in sheets.
• Wooden floors carried out in slats or with other free geometric shapes
• Furniture

The aesthetic quality of the presentation and considerations about the technical feasibility of the project will be positively evaluated. Some other relevant criteria are the indication of at least one wood species certified according to the FSC® list, the attention to the reuse of wood and the optimization of its use in production processes.

Students and professionals can participate as individuals or in groups. The first category includes all Italian and foreign candidates enrolled in Faculties of Architecture, Design and Engineering, Schools and Institutes of Design and Academies of Fine Arts. By professionals, we mean all Italian and foreign designers (no specific qualification or diploma/degree is compulsory) with no age limit.

• PROFESSIONALS Category: 1° prize € 5,000.00
• STUDENTS Category: 1° prize € 5,000.00
• PROFESSIONALS Category Carpanelli Award: 1° prize € 3,000.00
• STUDENTS Category Carpanelli Award: 1° prize € 2,000.00
