Plastic Technologies Award 2012

Six winning projects in the first edition of the contest promoted by Promaplast srl and POLI.design

122 participating candidates, 12 finalists, 6 winners: these are the numbers of the first edition of the Plastic Technologies Award 2012, contest organized and promoted by Promaplast srl and POLI.design, with patronage by ADI, the Italian Association for Industrial Design, that invited designers to deal with polymeric materials by developing innovative projects basing on one of the six themes indicated in the announcement: injection moulding, extrusion, blowmoulding, rotational moulding, recycling, biopolymers.

The aim of Plastic Technologies Award 2012 was to promote the creation of highly innovative projects from the cultural, functional and productive point of view, but also to encourage meetings between designers and companies in this field, that could decide to produce the winning projects, and to share innovation targets in one of the most extensive exhibition in Europe.
Different companies sponsored the prizes: MAGIC MP, NEGRI BOSSI, NOVAMONT, PERSICO ROTATIONAL DIVISION and TORNINOVA, together with PLAST 2012 organizer, PROMAPLAST srl, e PLASTICSEUROPE Italia.

Here are the winning projects:

1st PRIZE (€ 3.000): “ASA NISI MASA”
Project by Santo Denti
A car barrier polymeric cover awarded for the innovative cultural approach in the area of urban space valorization, which shows an excellent link between form and function and an appropriate use of the technology for its volumes and versatility.

2nd PRIZE (€ 1.000) that also won the Special Prize Manufacturing Rotational Moulding
Project by Raul Frollà
With a range of exterior furniture underlining an optimum correspondence between aesthetical quality and formal opportunities offered by the technology.

Here are the selected projects for the “Special Prize Manufacturing”:

For the Injection Moulding category (€ 1.000): “A interseca B interseca C”
Project by Pietro Perbe
Project of a basket that can be use at home or in office and help us in the diversification of the garbage and show us how this action is very important.

For Extrusion category (€ 1.000): “IL TAPPETO VOLANTE”
Project by Francesco Parodi
a PVC flying carpet that transform into an armchair for children thanks to an interesting use of material tensions obtained from the guided bending of extruded semifinished.

For the Blowmoulding category (€ 1.000): “LOOLY”. Pattumiera a soffietto
Project by Gioele and Eddy Antonello
A litter bin that exploits the advantages of the polymeric material showing a noticeable innovation in the mode of use, well induced by its shape that was designed with simplicity and efficacy.

For the Rotational moulding category (€1.000): “LEG”
Project by Raul Frollà

For the Biopolymers category (€1.000): “BIOPOLYMERIC SEED SYSTEM”
Project by Gianluca Valleggi, Fabio Cannì and Alessandro Eugenio La Sorte
That represent an innovative application of biopolymers and production processes applied to environmental design in the category Biopolymers.
